Bio
Dr. L’Heureux received his Ph.D. in Cell Biology from the University of Laval in Quebec, Canada, where he invented a novel tissue engineering strategy termed sheet-based tissue engineering. His early advocacy of completely biological approaches has led to a general trend away from scaffold-based regenerative medicine. Dr. L’Heureux has published the self-assembly approach in top pre-clinical and clinical journals, including Nature Medicine, The New England Journal of Medicine, and the Lancet. In 2007, Dr. L’Heureux’s work was recognized by Scientific American as one of the top 50 achievements of the year, spanning the fields of science, business, and policy. Dr. L’Heureux brings to Saint Joseph’s not only a high level of scientific innovation, but also a proven track record of being able to turn basic science into clinical reality.
